Mop overview

Mop

A mop as well as alternative tools like the Twistmop and Spraymop are practical cleaning tools. For parquet cleaning, the cotton mop is always recommended. In particular, we strongly advise using a cotton mop for oiled parquet. For a parquet sealing, microfiber cloths can also be used. In general, conventional mops with synthetic fibers can be problematic for maintaining oiled parquet surfaces. The rough and hard fibers may damage the surface and weaken the parquet’s resistance. A “cotton parquet mop,” on the other hand, offers a gentle cleaning option for oiled surfaces. The soft cotton fibers glide smoothly across the surface while providing excellent dirt removal.

Cotton Mop for Parquet

The ideal mop for parquet floors ensures high cleaning performance in a short time. The ergonomics of the device used play an important role. There is therefore no single perfect mop for parquet, as personal working methods and preferences vary. Mops are available in different versions with integrated wringing mechanisms, spray functions, flexible ball joints, so-called “spaghetti strands,” and many other designs. While the mechanism of the preferred parquet mop may differ, compromises should never be made on the cleaning textile: we recommend exclusively the cotton mop for parquet. It is suitable for wood floor oil, soap, wax, water-based lacquer and 2K parquet lacquer. The cotton mop for oiled parquet ensures that the resistance of all these surfaces is not weakened.

Cleaning Oiled Parquet with a Mop

Surprisingly, oxidatively oiled parquet can be cleaned not only damp but even wet with a mop. This is due to the diffusion-open surface. This means that the oxidatively oiled parquet surface can absorb and release moisture. For UV-oiled and sealed surfaces, however, wet cleaning with a parquet mop is not recommended. If the film-forming layer is damaged in one spot, water can penetrate but not evaporate, which can cause discoloration of the parquet surface. Please also ensure that you do not use overly strong or chemically concentrated cleaning agents. By purchasing a cotton mop and following the recommendations for cleaning and care of oiled parquet, you will significantly extend the beauty and lifespan of your floor. Investing in a specific mop for parquet floors pays off.
